The Nobody Inn

Doddiscombsleigh, Exeter EX6 7PS, UK – 01647 252394

A pint by the fireplace at the Nobody Inn has long been a favourite treat of mine, but this is the first time I've been back in ten years, and also the first time I've stayed overnight. I'm pleased to say the room was very comfortable and the breakfast hearty and tasty. Well off the beaten track, it manages to be both a locals' pub and a tourist destination. The food and beer are still excellent, and they still serve a mind-boggling selection of whiskies. My wife and I got talking to a couple who have lived in the village since the 80s, and they confirmed that the Nobody Inn really hasn't changed in decades. That, really, is its charm: if you're after something sleek and modern, look elsewhere. But if you want honest, unpretentious, welcoming and warm, this is the place. Just beware of the uneven floors in the bedrooms after a couple of drinks: the building has had a few centuries to settle, after all.

Great Cosey little pub/restaurant. Even for someone like me who is extremely fussy. Nothing was too much trouble. Portion sizes were just right. Prices were standard and service was great! Highly recommended!
